Crime arises from its protracted slumber in Udaipur, and the City of Lakes finally sheds its veil of tranquility. Trapped in the heart of the mayhem, is Dr. Aditya Deshmukh, a quintessential loser. In order to redeem himself and wrench his soul free of the guilt of a 'murder most foul,' he has to find the missing links between Abraham and Sarasvati, Abhimanyu and Sumitra, Yasser Arafat and Vladimir Putin. The body count continues to rise as Aditya gropes in the darkness. Hunted by an enemy he can't see, devoured by a love he can't consummate, and guided by a friend he can't trust, he is caught up in a race against time where he can't afford to be the runner-up..........................
Book Review: The book Half A Shadow by Anurag Shourie is a medical thriller.According to the author, it is a mytho-medical thriller. The storyline is intensely thrilling and had a hypnotic quality about it. As the plot develops,it is extremely difficult to put down the immensely gripping saga. The author has absolute command over the medical side of the narration. He has depicted everything in its minutest details. It is remarkable how he has gone into the depth of things and has portrayed them in such a manner that a person having very little knowledge of medical issues, is also fascinated. He has interwoven medicine and mythology with amazing expertise. The writer seems to be influenced by the Mahabharata which is quite surprising as well as awe-inspiring .The details about Abhimanyu and a Chakravyuh are soul stirring. The description is so vivid that it leaves the reader spellbound. The reference to Shakespeare’s , Julius Caeser, at various places, is also interesting. It has been pointed out sarcastically that even Shakespeare was aware of marketing tactics, hence the name Julius Caeser are not Marcus Brutus. The vast and precise knowledge of things, certainly impresses a lot the protagonist, Aditya’s character is vulnerable and one is compassionate and protective towards him.The characters appear to be real life ones. With his mytho-medical thriller, the writer has ventured into an area that has not been trodden too often. The writer certainly deserves accolades for that. The supernatural element in the book was the only aspect which the readers might not be able to relate to.
