On 25th May, Shri Yatindra Mishra perused from his book "Lata" Sur Gatha at a book occasion which was held in Delhi.
Sur Gatha, is a rare book which observes Art in all its totality against the setting of the life of the incredible artist Lata Mangeshkar.
It touches each subject under Art and an Artist's life.
The greatest accomplishment of the book is that it has investigated the untouched parts of the immense craftsman. It acquaints Lata Mangeshkar with the world as an incredible thinker,a scholar and a social exponent, apart from her mainstream picture as a playback vocalist.
Shri Yatindra Mishra has been fruitful with his work.He is a poet, editor and a music and silver screen researcher and his work on this book was additionally respected with the 'Golden Lotus' for the best book on film.
Shri Yatindra Mishra said in an interview that it took him six years to understand the depth of the life of the legend Lata ji and after six whole years he was successfully able to write this beautiful book full of anecdotes of her life.
As a playback legend, Mangeshkar was the performing voice for a pack of Bollywood driving women. Through the book, we hear the vocalist's own particular voice, the notable voice of a hugely talented lady with a calm yet unyielding quality and an unflagging sense of duty regarding polished methodology and diligent work. The performing voice of the notable artist has unprecedentedly affected Indian film music, yet the voice that we hear in the book, sharing tales, recollections and encounters, is similarly moving and motivating.
She shares beguiling tales from her adolescence when she and her kin would re-order scenes from movies they had appreciated viewing. She describes how she would play Tukaram, roosted high on top of a heap of sleeping cushions and pads, singing "amhi jato amuchya gaavaa, amcha Ram ghyawa" from the film Sant Tukaram, while her sisters Meena and Asha, alongside cousin Pandharinath, filled the role of Tukaram's adherents, sobbing plentiful tears as they argued to be brought to Vaikunth, the heavenly home of Lord Vishnu.
Another exquisite tale from around 1945-46 concerns a well known radio program, titled Aap Ki Farmaish, where audience members could send in solicitations for their main tunes to be communicated. The names of the individuals who asked for the melody would likewise be declared with the track subtle elements. Mangeshkar sent a demand for Begum Akhtar's searingly lovely ghazal Deewana banana hai to… . She concedes that it was all the more exciting for her to hear her own particular name asking for a tune than it was to be recognized as the artist of the absolute most prominent film melodies in the historical backdrop of Indian film music.
She stoically reviews the times of huge hardship faced by her after her dad passed away in 1942, the onus of accommodating the family fell on her young shoulders. At the age of 12, she would leave for work clad in basic cotton saris that she bought for just Rs 12, washed and dried it herself . Regularly, tune recordings would happen on the studio floor after the shooting plan for the day was finished. This implied recording sessions occurred late during the evening and proceeded with well until the early hours of the morning, in spaces that were not aerated and cooled and where the utilization of fans would have damaged the sound.
Thus the book is full of enthusiastic events, songs and incidents of Lata Mangeshkar's life.
Shri Yatindra Mishra has used a basic language in his book so that every reader could connect with the content.
It is a short interesting musical journey of the life of Lata Mangeshkar.
