Book Summary: Do you want to work, walk, relax,
breathe, smile and cherish your wonderful life under a clear bright blue
sky?..Then, under the smoky sky, say a little prayer for the rains of love to
wash away the smoke...
Strap yourself for an emotional roller coaster ride as you experience Anurita's world through the pages of her diary. Laugh with Anurita, wipe away her tears, revel in her wisdom and be a part of her life's conversations.
A bold and daring young woman from a little village in India, Anurita chooses to tread the untrodden path, against the dictates of a judgmental society. But she is determined to seek the true meaning of her life at any cost. As she follows her heart all the way to the city and beyond, she is met with turbulences of all kinds. A stunningly handsome middle-aged man stirs in her feelings of love and passion; but her romantic fantasy meets with an abrupt end. And then, in a faraway country, she loses her friends to an unexpected tragedy.
Just when everything seems to be going awry and she is about to give up on humanity, it rains. As rains from the smoky sky fall on the Earth, Anurita discovers fireflies in the darkness, dancing on the rain-bathed petals of lovely carnations, the flowers of god.
About the author: Pritam Mandal is originally from Tisha, a
village located near Kolkata, India. He completed a PhD (2013) in Physics from
USA after his MSc in Physics from IIT Bombay (2007). After PhD, he worked as a
postdoctoral researcher in the Middle East.
Writing is Pritam's passion. Among all activities and works, Pritam says that writing is what makes him feel truly alive; he feels that writing is what beats the chaos and noise out of him; bringing balance and peace in his being; offering him the pleasure of re-experiencing life and expressing it (what it feels to be alive; what it feels to be happy or unhappy; sad or cheerful; cursed or blessed or blissful).
He wishes to remain a learner forever; finding motivation, enthusiasm, energy and time to read, explore experience, understand, learn, appreciate and, of course, write. He sincerely wishes to bring in a little light and peace to the world we live in.
"Let there be light. And let there be peace." This is what he prays for every day.
Pritam lives with his wife Libia in Visakhapatnam, India where he spends most of his time reading, writing, running, cycling and trying to follow an 'organic' lifestyle.
Book review:The book rains off a smoky sky by Pritam Mandal, is a story of Anurita, the protagonist, who goes through the turmoils of life. The manner in which she evolves as a completely different person after all those “learning experiencesâ€, has been depicted convincingly by the writer. He has indulged in a very different style of writing. The book is composed of the jottings from the diary of Anurita. It is a rambling conversation between “Anu†and her inner self 'Rita',her friend and confidante' whom she calls her firefly. The writer has successfully shown how every woman should dream like Anu and breaking out from the traditions, shackles, restrictions and barriers imposed upon her by the society, emerge as a winner in this unforgiving world to become a “sky lanternâ€. The writer has dealt with the most important problem of contemporary times , saving the environment and preserving the planet for the next generation. According to him “nature also has a soul†and we should take care to preserve its chastity and innocence. He has provided many solutions to this problem in the book. The writer insists that children should be given lessons regarding the environment, health, nature, humanity, our civilization, history of India and the planet earth, not encouraged to participate in the reality shows where they dance and sing. He has criticized the way that people prefer to remain silent on the problems faced by the society instead of raising their voices against them. He has seriously mentioned that the world is to suffer the problem of water crisis unless some thing concrete is done about it. The writer has offered a solution to almost all the problems that we confront these days, be it waste management or shortage of water. He refers to the dilemma of the farmer concerning the use of fertilizers and pesticides. It is a marvel that he understands the thinking process of a woman so clearly. The significant message that the writer conveys through his book is to “ be the change that you wish to see in the world. Raise your voice against corruptionâ€.
